Abstract

The author deals with the Genealogy of the Princes of Legnice-Brzeg assembled 1593 by the secretary of the princes, Eleasar Tilisch (1560-1612), and analyses the latter´s statement about the relationship of the Silesian Princes to Charlemagne, which was allegedly mediated by Hedwig of Andechs (Holy Hedwig). This representative genealogy, which contains the male members of the dynasty since the fictive ancestor Piast to the death of John George 1592, demonstrated high self-esteem of the Princes of Legnica-Brzeg and was an instrument of dynastic publicity
