Barrett Browning or Klášterský? Krásnohorská or Byron? : On Gender in the Life of Literature

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2010

Abstract

The monograph explains Czech translations (from 19th c. English literature) as performative acts of their authors who inscribe into them their individual interpretations while being informed by multiple influences and cultural, literary and translation norms in particular cultural situations.

Thus the situations themselves get into focus of research in single chapters. The lens of the research is the gender dynamic of literary life, i.e. of literary creativity, intertextuality (with translation as one of its materializations), texts, and of other phenomena.
