Abstract

The article offers an outline of the Glottalic Theory. It points out the two crucial problems of the reconstruction of the Proto-Indo-European phonology which the theory aims to solve, sketches out various versions and main advantages of the theory, discusses criticism against it as well as possibilities of a non-glottalic solution of the problem of the Proto-Indo-European plosive inventory.
