Abstract

The study provides new findings in the functional load diagnostics. It compares two types of load tests in the range of vita maxima (treadmill, cycle ergometer) in a group of triathletes (males), members of the youth sport centres in triathlon in the period 2005 – 2008 (n = 55).

On the basis of the models verification using confirmatory factor analysis we found that endurance abilities can not be estimated from these two different tests with the same success. While the model of preconditions for the performance based on the treadmill has only one general factor, the model made by means of the test on the cycle ergometer consists of two factors and certain specificity can be seen in terms of strength abilities for cycling.

Therefore we recommend using the treadmill test for the diagnostics of endurance abilities in runners.
