The basic methodological approach of this study is a sociological look at the development of sport in the 19th and 20 century of the nations that live in Central Europe. It mainly deals with the participation of physical education and sport at the emancipation movement of minorities and the ways the sport enters the ethnic conflict.
It also deals with confrontation of national forms of physical culture with the sport internationalism, its globalization effects and the extent to which sport has contributed to the formation of modern society in Central Europe.
