Abstract

The study deals with the development of the Sokol organization after the death of Miroslav Tyrš in 1884, with individualities of Tyrš followers, and followers of his work - Josef Scheiner and Jindřich Vaníček. Josef Scheiner became the second mayor of the united Czech Sokol and Jindřich Vaníček became the chief of Sokol.

Both contributed to the development of Sokol before the First World War. Josef Scheiner has also joined the anti-Austrian resistance movement and was arrested during the war.

After the founding of the republic both men organized paramilitary units whose activities have contributed to the first consolidation of a new state power.
