Publication at Faculty of Arts |

Abstract

Discussing the set design for three ballets staged in the National Theatre in Prague by František Zelenka, the study tries to depict the principles of his method, typical of his stage design for ballet performances. Despite the fact that set designs for ballets forms only a minor part of his scenographic works, his concepts are creative, full of innovative ideas, and thus unique.

Be all of the ballets staged in the National Theatre, they are full of poetism and playfulness. Each of the settings illustrates Zelenka’s relation to movement and colours, defined also theoretically in his studies.
