How long is history of sustainable development?

Abstract

What can we read in history of SD? Will be there overlapping space-time-cultural system for realization of SD in higher than local level? It is just over twenty years since the Brundtland Commission Report but, taken as an axiological term, sustainable development resonates with older historical horizons. We could distinguish between SD as a concept and sustainability as a manifestation of good ecological practice, the wisdom of ethnic culture, the values of rural culture, etc.

At heart of a long running history we are beginning to articulate more or less sustaining relationships between man and nature. We described the (human) needs as a case-based moral appeal in the environmental, economic and social pillars of sustainable development to show some amazing shift in perception of sustainable development from local to global level.

We are convinced that historical lesson of sustainable development shows there is only theoretical harmony among three mentioned pillars, neither in time, nor in space.
