We have analyzed the functional status of the locomotors system in a selected group of sporting and non-sporting youth. In the sporting group we focused on the detection of muscle shortening in the most loaded muscle groups in the game of football.Subsequently, we applied a regular six-month intervention program in the form of stretching exercises.
In non-sporting group, we evaluated the current functional status of the musculoskeletal system and the volume of leisure physical activity per week, focusing on the detection of muscle imbalances in the musculoskeletal system. Occurrence of muscle imbalances and poor posture has been revealed in both - sporting and non-sporting group.
Muscle shortness and weakness together with limited ROM of selected joints was recorded mainly in the pelvis and lower extremities. After completing a six-month physical intervention program in the sporting group we observed, in most cases, correction of muscle shortening and increase range of motion in joints.
