“Níl an Focal Sin Againn“: Orality, Literacy, and Accounts of the 1798 Rebellion

Abstract

The study discusses the role of orality in the perception of the 1798 Irish Rebellion, especially among speakers of Irish, focusing on the output of the poet Mícheál Ó Longáin, a direct participant in the event, as well as in the 20th century novelistic reflections by Thomas Flanagan and Eoghan Ó Tuairisc.
