Suicidal behavior occurs in all development periods except the earliest age. Characteristic age peak of suicidal tendencies is in adolescence and elderly age.
Most of the risk factors in different ages are similar. But it seems that their extent and weight differs for each age cathegory, that means that the strenght of their impact is various in each age.
Beside that we can find specific risk factors for suicidal behavior in each life period. These are given by the developmental characteristics of the period.
In childhood the risk factors are in particular on the side of parents and family environment as well as on the side of peer relationships. In adulthood the external risk factors seem to be above all the interpersonal events and conflicts, financial problems, unemployment.
In elderly age it is mainly lonelyness, loss of life partner or physical illness. Risk factors shared across all development periods are depression, hopelessness - these are the strongest predictors of suicidal behavior.
