A perspective on the historical consciousness of the inhabitants of the Czech Republic through the prism of qualitative methodology

Abstract

The text is based on understandings gained from qualitative research of the historical consciousness of inhabitants of Czech Republic and teachers of history at primary and secondary schools. It examines the question of how interested the Czech people are in history, what they think about historical processes, how much importance they give to historical knowledge, what they say about the impact of politics and the media, how they evaluate Czech history, and what their opinion is about Czech national identity.

Special attention is devoted to the topic of the teaching of history at primary and secondary schools.
