The paper deals with the professional training opportunities for ex-pupils of special elementary schools, especially at vocational schools. Specifically, the range of courses offered by eleven second-cycle schools in northeast Bohemia is analysed and their positive and negative aspects are appraised.
The analysis is based on excursions made to the vocational schools and interviews with the principals of these facilities. The results of the analysis confirm the need to pay greater attention to those leaving special elementary schools and their further education, particularly in the context of the current shortage of craft-type professions and the lack of interest in these subjects among those leaving ordinary elementary schools.
