Abstract
The contribution describes and analyzes university teacher educators as the specific group of academics who prepare student teachers. A quality of teaching profession depends on a quality of teacher training and teacher educators are responsible for that.
We analyze roles and competencies of teacher educators and attempt to find analogies in medical education and medical educators. We present the Danish standards for teacher educators.
In a small historical excursion we reminded our tradition in pedagogical training of university teachers..We consider it necessary to pursue a teacher educators research and development a new generation of teacher educators. It is needed to influence doctoral students in the motivation, attitudes, knowledge and skills by means of higher education pedagogy course.
