N-cadherin can structurally substitute for E-cadherin during intestinal development but leads to polyp formation

Abstract

In the absence of E-cadherin, the sole expression of N-cadherin in an epithelial environment is sufficient to establish proper intestinal architecture during embryonal development as well as to induce neoplastic transformations.
