Abstract
The aim of the paper is to offer arguments in favor of a philosophical position called set theoretical realism. This position interprets mathematics as a discipline studying its own segment of objective reality and thus as a discipline that contributes to our knowledge of the real world.
The author tries to develop in more detail the position that was recently proposed by the American philosopher Penelope Maddy.
