Abstract
The article discusses the developmet of the university in Byzantium, and points to the fact, that in Byzantium, education had a anagogical role, that is it was a way to an acheivement of overall hapinnes of the human being. It shows the effort of the byzantine rulers to centralise education and therefore to make eduation a unifying force.
