AMUSEMENT PARKS AND CULTURE - POSSIBILITY OR CONTRAST?

Abstract

Amusement parks are artificially created commercial facilities designed to offer visitors new experience and entertainment. Among the best known types of amusement parks belong especially theme parks, water parks and some shopping centers.

These facilities, from which the most famous is Disneyland, are often criticized for their very low cultural value. However nowadays has been occuring facilities based on the fundamental concepts of amusement parks, whose goal is to provide cultural experiences of high quality or even education.

These are for instance life museums or cultural theme parks. This contribution disscus positive and negative social benefits of these "culturally valuable" amusement parks and the possibilities of their utilization in tourism.
