EVALUATION OF SELECTED BODY COMPOSITION PARAMETERS OF MODERN PENTATHLETES AND FENCERS

Publication at Faculty of Physical Education and Sport |

Abstract

The contribution brings information about current body composition of Czech elite modern pentathlon athletes and fencers, medallists of junior World and Europe Championships. For discovering body composition, multifrequency bioimpedance method was used (Datainput, 2004).

The gained data showed higher proportion of relative amount of active mass (FFM/ body weight) and cell mass (BCM/ body weight), higher ratio of extracellular and intracellular mass (ECM/BCM) and higher phase angle (A). Proportion of fat mass was in both observed teams identical with recommended values for top-performance sport.

Authors present better predispositions of pentathlon athletes as a possible reflection of heavy load during the trainings in comparison with fencers. In conclusion authors emphasize the importance of continual observation of body composition in sense of improvement of predispositions for sport performance and control of drinking regime and nutrition state in both sports.
