Abstract
The bush-cricket Meconema meridionale is of a Mediterranean origin. It had been known from France, Croatia, Slovenia and Switzerland.
During the 20th century it started to spread and it reached Belgium, Bulgaria, Hungary, Germany, Netherlands, Austria and Great Britain. In 2009 it has been found in the Czech Republic.
A systematic pursuance focused on suitable localities disclosed six other populations in Prague and seven populations in south Moravia. Out of the 13 localities, seven were represented by caravan camping sites, three by hotel parking places, two by highway resting places and one by a border crossing.
It is not likely that this bush-cricket species was overlooked at places which are usually visited on purpose of biological monitoring. With regards to the character of inhabited environment we believe that the spread of this species into the Czech Republic has been of a recent date and mediated by passive dispersal by cars.
