The increase of PKC-δ expression in rat hearts adapted to chronic hypoxia (CIH) is localized mainly in mitochondrial and sarcolemmal membranes. CIH-induced PKC-δ subcellular redistribution was reversed by acute treatment with its inhibitor rottlerin.
Our results are in the line with the view that PKC-δ mediates the cardioprotective effect of chronic hypoxia, probably via its mitochondrial and sarcolemmal targets.
