Abstract
The authors highlight the importance of dementia and its most common cause Alzheimer's disease especially in the context of ageing of the population in Europe and in the Czech Republic. Neurodegenerative diseases, especially those causing dementia will likely cause the highest burden of disease in this century.
Furthermore, the authors briefly describe the dementia syndrome and the curren P-PA-IA strategy of Czech Alzheimer Society based on the needs of patients with dementia is briefly characterized.
