Abstract
This paper closely focuses on historical data about occurence of brown bear on the territory of Bohemia, characteristics of its hunting and events behind extinction of the species. Further it describes present occurence of the brown bear, its food ecology and actual and potential conflicts in relation to its reintroduction to the environment of the Czech Republic.
Discussion of educational aspects of the relationship between public and large beasts of prey takes place in conclusion
