Publication at Faculty of Mathematics and Physics |
2010

Abstract

The article attempts at an overview of the phenomenon of idolization in the period of childhood and adolescence. Idolization, with the meaning of secondary attachment to significant people, e.g. peers, friends, teachers, but above all to mass media figures.

It is concerned with defining secondary attachment according to contemporary empirical research findings and according to classical psychological theories, paying special attention to E.H.Erikson, S.Freud and P.Blos. The empirical part of the article is focused on interpretation of author's research examining girl's and boy's (age 8-16) mass media idols and reasons for their choices through the question "Who is your favourite celebrity? Why do you think he or she is so famous?".
