Abstract
The article introduces major features in population development on the Asian continent and in Russia. Demographic behavior is briefly described independently in four geographic areas (East, South-Eh‑East, South-Ch‑Central,and Western Asia).
Special attention is paid to the mortality crisis during the past twenty years in Russia and to the Chinese one-ce‑child policy introduced in 1979.
