The article is focused on development of entrance to the tertiary education in the Czech Republic. The demographic development after the year 1989 is analysed together with its possible consequences for the tertiary education.
The entrance is evaluated according to the Trow`s system of tertiary education (elite, mass and universal). Net entry rate is used for the analysis of the entrance to the tertiary education.
In the paper, there it is on the available data illustrated that the Czech tertiary system passed through the runaway growth after the year 1989. This growth gradated after the year 1999 because of new Higher Education Act.
According to Trow there is no possibility of maintenance of the system which belongs to elite tertiary education for the development of the mass tertiary education. The same is valid for the transformation between mass and universal tertiary education.
It is advantageous for the education policy to analyse in which period the tertiary system should have been transformed.
