Abstract

The article delivers a portrait of Prof. Antonín Salajka (1901 – 1975).

First, it introduces his life, then his work. Although Salajka was by virtue of his education a dogmatic theologist and an authority on Russian theology, he devoted much of his rich collegiate career to lectures on clerical Slavonic (for 24 years).

Salajka produced a large number of popularizing articles and scholarly essays, including academic scripts, on this theme. Due to the lack of knowledge of Salajka and his Slavonic work among the contemporary Slavonic generation, included here is a complete list of his Slavonic work.

A short and rather general analysis revealed that Salajka may be classed with those who popularized Slavonic, rather than with beneficial.
