Abstract
General information about the new trans-discipline science branch called environmental history, which originated in the U.S. in the context of the of the U.S. West historiography in the 70s of 20th century.
Article provides a characteristic of broader causalities and connections of the environmental history formation also in Europe and in Czechia, then an outline of its methodology, definitions, and aims of research. It deals with the process of this discipline institutionalization, major scientific societies such as, e.g.
American Society for Environmental History, European Society for Environmental History, and their conferences. The article conclusion is accompanied by basic bibliography, selected Internet resources and list of major scientific societies dealing more or less with the environmental history topics.
