Limnological Study of Two Chosen Oxbow Lakes of the Svratka River in Milovy fold

Publication at Faculty of Science |

Abstract

The article presents the results of limnological study of two oxbows in upper Svratka river. Small area and volume of accumulated water of the lakes correspond with erosive and accumulative activity of the river.

Hydrological regime of the lakes is dominated by the influence of the river. The water column often mixes.

The basic chemism of the lakes is comparable to the chemism of the river. It depends on predominant filling in with water – in this case the river water.

Conductivity, alkalinity and pH are low due the geological bedrock and absence of huge pollution source. The lakes are considerably loaded with organic matters.

According to total nitrogen, total phosphorus and chlorophyll concentration lakes in the upper Svratka are eutrophic. The biomass of phytoplankton and zooplankton is low.

No remarkable differences in zooplankton species composition occurred among pools. The dominance of large species of zooplankton indirectly indicates that the lakes permanently or temporarily lack fishstock.
