Cut bacwaters in the Elbe River floodplain - endangered phenomenon

Abstract

Fluvial lakes are an important phenomenon in the floodplain of the Elbe River. They are significant elements in the landscape which increase biotope and species diversity.

They are biotopes of specially protected species of plants and animals and they also have aesthetical and recreational function. In the middle of agriculturally used area, however, they face many negative influences.
