The aim of this article is to study the development of mortality in post-communist countries which are EU-members in central and east Europe during the last 20 years. The regional differences were presented together with the simple analysis of the life expectancy and selected external factors, which could have some influence on the level of mortality.
The relationship between life expectancy and external factors was illustrated through the basic statistical methods – the factor and regression analysis. It was proved, that the post-communist countries are within the mortality development and factors, which are related with mortality, still a specific group of countries in the EU.
