Abstract
In this article the author deals with the issue of German secular patronage throughout the never ending 19th century. He draws attention to the main problems, such as the burghers´ attitude to patronage and its importance for the establishment of a civic society.
In this article the author deals with the Endowment Fund of Josef, Marie and Zděnka Hlávka and with its importance for the development of the sciences.
