The first chapter of Book presents a synthetic overview of each of the lands of the Crown of Bohemia in 1437–1526. The author proves that even at the very end of the Middle Ages, the Crown of Bohemia cannot be perceived as a compact kingdom; on the contrary, it remained a more-or-less free union of several lands under the rule of the King of Bohemia.
No estate union was established, and the attempts of the Bohemian estates to become the representatives of the estates of all the lands of the Crown were shunned by the others.
