Is Freedom in Necessity or in Happiness? Guo Xiang’s and Lin Xiyi’s Controversial Readings of Zhuangzi’s »Free Rambling«

Abstract

An interpretation of two traditional Chinese commentaries on the first chapter of the philosophical classics Zhuangzi. The paper analyzes the commentaries in the historical context and uncovers philosophical assumptions and consequences of their readings.
