Militarily used areas represent the spatial important and specificaly used landscape segment as same as a case of a marginalized area in the regional system. The aim of the paper is to focus on the issues of the regional development of the former and active militarily used areas in context of the settlement system development research and landscape changes research.
The emphasises is put on the mechanism of the spatial polarisation process and the heritage formalization process. Authors discuss the diference of the militarily used areas since the first half of the twentieth century in Czechia.
The discussion is based on the types, causations and implications of the forming and converting, spatial development, function changes and impacts on the landscape and mainly on the neighbourhoods of the militarily used areas.
