Long-period development of the Bílina River water quality (Elbe River catchment area, Czech Republic).

Abstract

Results summary: O2: gradual deterioration trend since 1977/1978 period under the industrial area of the Most Region; slight improvement on Bílina's downstream in the last decade BOD5:, COD: strong increase in the whole longitudinal profile till the seventies, significant decrease in the nineties. The significant decline in all profiles during the last decade; present state meets the current water quality standards according to Water Act No. 229/2007.

N-NH4+: the pollution of the Bílina River under the industrial area of the Most Region is still strong. The continual decrease of concentration of this indicator in 1967-2008 period illustrates the significant trend of improvement.

The unsatisfactory level of pollution (Water Act No. 229/2007) is still persisting in this area. Thermotolerant (faecal) coliform bacteria: the contamination of the whole longitudinal river profile is strong; no significant trend.
