Abstract

Czech translation of Iris Marion Young''s article "House and Home: Feminist Variations on the Theme". Article deals with the concept of preservation as a specific mode of historicity and expression of individuality.

Young proposes redefining the meaning of care and the creation of the home as a creative activity necessary for cultural and social continuity in both biological and symbolic reproduction. Young acknowledges that most household chores are endless Sisyphean tasks, which form a basic for oppression of women, but she also emphasizes that activities associated with care and preservation are activities in which one can express individual personality and moreover that these activities form the material and psychological basis of identity and of the ability to forge meaningful relationships with others and to relate to the world.

Young highlights the potential of the reinterpretative form of preservation as a critical relationship to both individual and collective history.
