Abstract
The condition of our forests is a reult of human influence on the original Central European deciduous forests. Developments in terms of area, tree species composition and the level of tree damage have been undergoing changes and, after a serious crisis during the second half of the 20th century, the situation is improving slightly.
The future of our forest ecosystems depends on the acceptance of principles of sustainable management on an ecological basis.
