Health State of Men and Women in the Context of Marital Status Evaluated on the Basis of European Health Interview Survey in the Czech Republic

Abstract

This article presents the data from the European Health Interview Survey performed in the Czech Republic on the sample of 1955 respondents in 2008. It links data on health state and lifestyle with characteristics of marital status of respondents.

According to analysis performed, the demonstration of relation between marital and health status differs by age group and by sex. Better health state was found among men aged 15–34 years living without a spouse, in higher age groups, namely among women, persons living in partnership have better health state than others.

The worse health state report persons, who are widowed and living without a spouse. The prevalence of overweight which is a risk factor of good health is higher among persons living in partnership; prevalence of daily smokers and alcohol consumers is higher among those living without a spouse.
