Abstract

The monitoring of non-breeding Greylag Goose Anser anser was carried out in the 16 regions of the Czech Republic between July 2008 and March 2009. In July, 7,485 individuals of Greylag Goose were recorded in the Czech Republic.

Afterwards, numbers increased in the first half of August, when 13,335 Greylag Geese were recorded on roost sites in the Czech Republic. This increase in the recorded number can be explained by the movements of Greylag Goose from Neusiedler Lake (Austria/Hungary) to Czech sites after the start of the hunting season in Austria (1st August 2008).

Numbers of Greylag Goose in August increased especially on fishponds in south Bohemia in distance of about 200–250 km from Neusiedler Lake.
