The Theme of Repentance in the Old Testament

Abstract

The article deals with various aspects of repentance in the Old Testament texts. The punishment which is a regular consequence of sin can be postponed or even averted by a sincere repentance of an individual or a community.

Such a conversion is to be accompanied by acts of mercy to which the prophets urgently invite. Psalm 51 finally presents the repentance as a renewed act of creation of the penitent?s heart
