Historic context of the profane and sacral building works under the last Babenberks and king Přemysl Otakar II. (1252-1278) in Hainburg an der Donau and the struggle for the protection and research of a medieval cultural heritage of the lands of the Czech crown 1998-2004

Abstract

At the beginnig the contribution deals with the program for protection and primary interdisciplinary research of the high medieval cultural heritage in the town Hainburg an der Donau in Lower Austria between the years 1998-2004, which was supported by a number of czech institutions. Then it tries to work out the historical circumstances, which led to the foundation of the profane and sacral architecture in this town in the 1. 3. quarter of the 13. cent. with a supra-regional significance, which were determined by tight relations of the local secular and clerical dignitaries to the court of the last Babenberks, by the residence of Margaret of Babenberg in Hainburg in the years 1247-1252, and by the high importance of this town for political and military strategies of the czech king Přemysla Otakara II., who married here for two times.
