Abstract
The published guidelines for antibiotic prophylaxis of infective endocarditis andd general and/or local infectious complication associated with gastrointestinal endoscopy are neither uniform based on strong scientific evidence in all cases. We aimed to review these guidelines and attempt to unify the management of antibiotic prophylaxis for specific endoscopic procedures and for cardiac and non-cardiac risk groups of patients.
