Abstract

Secondary osteoporosis represents big part of the total amount of patients with this diagnosis. Reasons for secondary osteoporosis are very heterogeneous, including malabsorption, gastrointestinal diseases, chronic renal insufficiency, some psychiatric diagnosis, and many others.

Very important and common reasons are side effects of different drugs, mainly glucocortikoids. Glucocortikoids target different levels of bone metabolism and knowledge about the influence on cell biology, cell interactions and molecular mechanisms are well described.
