Morphological and functional evaluation of radical resections for reectal cancer

Abstract

Patients with diagnosed rectal carcinoma were before operation examinated by endorectal ultrasonography and rectal lymphoscintigraphy and perioperative radioimmunodetection. Total mesorectal rectal excision was parformed during the radical rectal operations.

Detailed histological examination of biopsy samples were carried out to check the results of previous investigations and to find possible occult metastases in mesorectum and regional lymph nodes of a. haemorrhoidalis sup. Oncological importance of radical rectum resections was assessed in relation to quality of life.

Functional investigation was done by endorectal manometry, subjective problems were gathered by the questionnaire.
