The end of the 20th century witnessed a trend towards strengthening of the relationships between parents and school. Traditionally, schools in Central Europe avoided cooperation with parents in the area of education.
The typical parent-school relationship is that of provider and customer. Only less than two percent of schools make parents regularly participate in the teaching process.
Effort of the parent to influence the education process is usually not welcome. The reasons for the low parents’ involvement can be found both on the side of the family and the school.
However, there are groups of parents in post-communist countries who are considerably involved in education of their children. One of such groups consists of parents educating their children at home.
Research, presented in this paper, is based on analysis of legal background of home education in different post- countries of Central Europe.
