This is the attempt of analyzing works of art by phenomenological methods inspired by Husserl, Merleau-Ponty, Jean-Luc Marion and others. There are analyzed works of Rosso Fiorentino, Claude Monet, Edvard Munch, Wassili Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Marcel Duchamp, Pablo Picasso, Maurice Wyckaert, Arnulf Rainer, Anselm Kiefer, Hermann Kleinknecht, and also works of surrealist art, psychopathological art, film, and art of tattoo.
The appendix gives a short history of the phenomenological school at the State University of Milan where a tradition of phenomenological aesthetics has been established already before World War II.
