Language Courses in the English Seminar of Charles University During the First Republic

Abstract

The English studies in the Charles University were, owing to Professor Vilém Mathesius, on a high level during the First Republic. The paper deals with practical language courses in the English Seminar given by the instructors Václav Alois Jung, John Archibald Allan, Antonín Osička, John Herdman Smith, Tom Oakes Hirst, and Harold Theodore Cheshire.
