Abstract
I show why important recent attempts - by Weiss, Erler and Vlastos - to defend logical soundness of the main arguments of the dialogue fail. I analyze three conversational figures used by Socrates to wheedle approval from Hippias in certain crucial passages 367 c4-6 etc.
I collect and comment on the -quasi-sceptical motives in the dialogue.
