Based on the first Czech translation of Saids Orientalism, the paper is dealing with the concept of orient, orientalism, orientalization and selforientalization, comparing the classical imagination of orient with the inventing of slavic identity during the 19th century. Puškins poem Klevetnikam Rossii is an example of geopolitical poetics, as well as the discours on slavic congress in Prague 1908 and the neo-slavic movement led by Karel Kramá ř.
